Background

Between Saskatchewan and Africa, in 2016, $900 million worth of trade was conducted. Relative to other continents, the African region received the least amount of trade. However, it also signifies that the market is not completely saturated and that there is potential for collaboration between Canada and the continent. African countries are rising to be global economic powerhouses with a population of 2.1 billion with a median age of 19.

To identify the market opportunities and challenges that exist, I will be traveling to West-Africa for a series of conferences of business presentations. The events will be addressing ICT, FinTech & Africa’s Economic Future, Intra- African Trade, Foreign Direct Investment, Regional Integration, Data Investment Promotion and Economic Development, and lastly Mining and Agribusiness. My overall mission is to build trade relations and also to understand the key players in the economic development terrain in the reaion

Lastly, traveling to West Africa gives me the opportunity to speak to global industry experts who have attended prestigious institutions such as Oxford University. I can learn from their experiences of advising international companies, institutes and governments on the best practices to foster technology for social impact. This opportunity is essential to my life-long career of understanding and proposing solutions to better deliver government services using technology.
